Kiwanis Club of Tempe welcomes the Tempe Mayoral hopefuls this Thursday at noon

ONE OF THEM WILL BE TEMPE’S NEXT MAYOR FOR FOUR YEARS

Be sure to be at Kiwanis at noon Thursday when you get an up-close-and-in-the-eye look at the three familiar people running to be Tempe’s mayor for the next four years.

Two of them, of course, are longtime members of KCOT:  Past President and current Treasurer Linda Spears and past board member Mark Mitchell. They will be joined by Michael Monti, a past speaker to KCOT and owner of Monti’s La Casa Vieja restaurant.  The primary election is Tuesday March 13. If the top vote-getter does not get 50 percent of the vote, the two top finishers will vie for the post in May in the general election.  In the following two weeks, March 1, newcomer candidates for the City Council will speak; on March 8, the two incumbent council candidates will speak,  BUT THIS THURSDAY, YOU ARE TREATED TO THE MAYORAL HOPEFULS. BE SURE TO BE ON HAND:

Executive Director of Fiesta Bowl to speak at Kiwanis

Our next meeting…

This Thursday, December 1st we’ll be visited by ROBERT SHELTON, the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE FIESTA BOWL. Former University of Arizona President Robert Shelton was named as the new leader of the Fiesta Bowl in June in wake of the removal of CEO John Junker, who was terminated in March after an internal bowl report outlined inappropriate spending and campaign contributions. The organization hired Shelton and gave him a new title: executive director.  Hear what he is doing to rebuild the Fiesta Bowl organization and image. Shelton was president of UA from 2006 until June 2011. Before that, he was provost and executive vice chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California at San Diego.
