Education First, a Tempe non-profit committee devoted to promoting voter awareness of local school board elections, has announced that it will host a forum for each of the three school district governing boards having elections this November serving the families and children of Tempe, Guadalupe, Ahwatukee/Foothills and parts of the Gila Indian Reservation and other East Valley cities and towns. The Forum will take place on Monday evening, October 1st, beginning at 5:30 PM in the Tempe City Council Chambers and will be broadcast live on Tempe Channel 11. The Forum will also stream multiple times via on line link until the election on November 6th. Please check Tempe Channel 11 for viewing.
Tempe City Council Member and former Tempe Union High School District Governing board member Robin Arredondo-Savage and Dick Foreman, also a former Tempe Union Governing Board member and current Tempe Preparatory Academy Board member are co-founders of Education First.
“As a former governing board member I know first hand how difficult it is to reach out to voters. Dick and I are proud to offer this opportunity for all candidates and the public to join us in discussing key issues affecting our schools and what they, the candidates, will offer to us voters on behalf of Tempe families,” said Arredondo-Savage.
“Councilmember Arredondo Savage and I have had a great response from the candidates and look forward to a thoughtful discussion on education issues that affect our local schools. We are both excited to offer this opportunity to voters throughout these three great school districts to learn first hand about the candidates.”
Candidates for the Tempe Union High School District will appear at 5:30, followed by candidates for the Tempe Elementary District 3 at 6:15 and then conclude with the Kyrene Elementary School District at 7:00 PM.

Tempe Union high schools offer rigorous instructional programs that are balanced with extended learning opportunities, the fine arts, and athletics. This mix allows us to graduate well-rounded adolescents who are prepared to compete at national and global levels. We offer comprehensive learning experiences because we know that success in college and beyond is linked with the ability to excel academically, to communicate broadly, and to work flexibly and creatively. Our expectation is that students will not only excel in the classroom but that they will also excel in our community by participating in projects that serve those in need.
